Schwenninger Wild Wings handily beat DEG, resulting in a 2-4 loss for them, sabotaging their efforts to climb the standings.
In a closely contested match, the Düsseldorf EG faced the Schwenninger Wild Wings on Friday, 27th December. Despite a valiant effort, the home team fell short, ending the game with a score of 1:5.
The first period saw no goals from either side, setting the stage for an exciting battle. However, the action heated up in the second period, with Tyson Spink scoring for the Wild Wings at the 56th minute, assisted by Feist. This goal marked the beginning of a series of events that would favour the visiting team.
Shortly after, the Wild Wings took the lead with a goal from Feist, assisted by Platzer and Spink. The DEG struggled to respond, and the game's only goal for Düsseldorf was credited to Tyler Angle, a brilliant moment in an otherwise challenging match.
The third period was marked by power play struggles for the DEG, and they failed to capitalise on their opportunities. The Wild Wings, on the other hand, made the most of their chances, with Sebastian Uvira scoring at the 41st minute to equalise the game, and an empty-net goal by the Wild Wings in the final minutes with a three-man disadvantage.
Max Balinson was sent to the sin bin for a cross-check, and there was a significant period of play during the final period where the DEG's DEG spent on penalty killing, but they managed to keep a clean sheet during this time.
The game also featured a fistfight between Bennet Roßmy and Phil Hungerecker, resulting in a five-minute penalty plus a game misconduct for Roßmy.
Steven Reinprecht, coach of the DEG, brought extensive playing experience to his role, including a significant DEL career with high scoring and leadership on the ice, as well as tactical acumen demonstrated by in-game decisions. However, questions remain about the qualities he brought to the coaching seat.
The DEG will look to bounce back in their next game against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg on Saturday, 28th December, with a first face-off at 20:00. The team will then visit the Iserlohn Roosters on Monday, 30th December, with a game time of 19:30. Unfortunately, the team was missing Rick Schofield, Oliver Mebus, Bernhard Ebner, Justin Richards, and Ryan McKiernan for this match, and Tyler Gaudet was injured and not fit to play.
