A Chatty Roundup: WSV vs RWO, August 3rd

School receives educational task assignment

Hey there, sports fans! Let's dive into the nail-biting match between WSV and RWO that took place on the 3rd of August. René Klingbeil, our trainer, made a single change to the lineup, as Captain Niklas Dams, fresh from recovering a strain, replaced Oktay Dal in the starting eleven.

Before kick-off, a choreography was set to celebrate the 70th birthday of the WSV, scheduled for July 8. A moment of silence was observed for Stefan Gottschalk, the late and beloved former stadium announcer, who passed away earlier in the week at 52. The game commenced, and it seemed like history might repeat itself, as the WSV found themselves trailing in the same fashion as the Velbert match. A ball from the right was deflected by Timur Mehmet Kesim, sneaking past Krystian Wozniak and nestling comfortably in the back of the net - 0:1 (6').

The WSV stumbled initially, finding it hard to make an impact, while the visitors took advantage, almost scoring again. Wozniak, the goalkeeper, managed to thwart Kesim's header with a nifty save. The WSV created a few half-chances, but TWO took advantage to score the second goal. Semir Saric lost possession in midfield, allowing for a swift counter-attack that resulted in Kesim slotting the ball into the bottom left corner - 0:2 (20'). The WSV was struggling to keep pace with the visitors' speed and intricate combinations, as RWO dominated proceedings.

Before half-time, the WSV had a lucky escape when Dominik Bilogrevic made a mistake, gifting Moritz Stoppelkamp an opportunity from 35 meters. To our relief, Stoppelkamp's shot went narrowly wide (39'). In the midst of this, Kevin Hagemann picked up a yellow card (40') for a foul, and shortly after, he was shown a red card (41') for a heated argument with the referee. The WSV managed to avoid conceding another goal before the break.

At half-time, Klingbeil made four substitutions: Hugo Schmidt, Beyhan Ametov, Riccardo Grym, and Oktay Dal replaced Dams, Bilogrevic, Saric, and Marco Terrazzino. The WSV stepped up their attack, but RWO remained resilient in defense. Stoppelkamp came close to extending the visitors' lead from 20 meters (56'), but the WSV fans were left waiting for clear-cut chances.

In the 64th minute, Shinnosuke Nishi replaced Levin Müller. The WSV continued to press, but unfortunately, they couldn't find a way through. RWO then sealed their victory with goals from Cotrrell Ezekwem (78') and Luca Vincent Schlax (82'), leaving the WSV still searching for the back of the net. The game ended 0:5.

Looking ahead, the WSV will travel to face SV Eintracht Hohkeppel on August 10, at 2 PM. Next week, they will take on SF 97/30 Lowick in Bocholt on August 14, at 7:30 PM, and then host SC Paderborn's U23 team at the Stadion am Zoo on August 18, at 2 PM.
