A Tier-Middle Score for Saxony-Anhalt in Education Performance

New for the educational landscape, Saxony-Anhalt finds itself snuggled comfortably in the middle tier once more, according to the yearly evaluation by the Initiative New Social Market Economy (INSM). Ranking 11th out of 16, the state maintains its position from the previous year, following closely behind the top dogs, Saxony and the likes of Bavaria and Hamburg. However, Thuringia dwells nearby, with Bremen and Brandenburg dragging behind, while North Rhine-Westphalia takes center stage.

The ranking takes into consideration a whopping 98 education indicators, focusing on criteria that address educational equality, prosperity, skill development, and growth, as well as openness and equal educational opportunities.

Pocketful of Investments

The study delves into the ratio of education investment per student to overall public expenditure per resident, scrutinizing school and university investments. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of childcare within educational institutions and average class sizes. Detailed results for each federal state will be spilled on Tuesday.

The Netherlands takes the educational crown in many global rankings, but our neighbors to the west were not part of this evaluation. In this scope, analyzing the educational performance of German federal states, Saxony-Anhalt lags behind.

In lower secondary schools, an impressive 89.3% of pupils attend all-day schools, and Saxony excels in competencies across reading and mathematics. The state also welcomes the highest rate of foreign students in upper secondary education, combining engineering graduates and doctorate holders in large numbers.
