The "School of Tomorrow" expansion is in full swing, adding an extra 52 educational institutions to the 45 originally involved in Rhineland-Palatinate's pioneering learning initiative since the 2022/23 academic year. Minister of Education Stefanie Hubig (SPD) announced this significant growth on Tuesday, surpassing initial expectations according to a press release from Mainz.

The initiative encompasses various types of schools: grammar schools, Realschulen plus, elementary schools, integrated comprehensive schools, special schools, and vocational institutions. This venture seeks to address the evolving demands of education by focusing on self-directed learning, cross-grade collaborations, digital learning, flexible lesson times, and alternative assessment methods.

Hubig underscores the necessity of adapting to modern educational needs, acknowledging that the education landscape has significantly shifted since previous generations. This initiative serves as a catalyst for driving change, allowing schools to take the lead and receive support from relevant entities, including the Ministry of Education, school supervisory authority, and the State Pedagogical Institute.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is also involved, collaborating with Rhineland-Palatinate to evaluate and improve the initiative during its trial period.
