School and other cancellations around southern Manitoba on Friday
Heavy snow and icy conditions have forced widespread school closures across Manitoba. Multiple school divisions cancelled classes on Friday, while several daycare centres also shut their doors. Road conditions, however, remain clear for now.
A long list of schools will stay closed due to the winter storm. Affected institutions include Alexander, O'Kelly, Spring Valley, Gabrielle-Roy, Lagimodière, Saint-Joachim, Réel-Bérard, Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Sainte-Agathe, Pointe des Chênes, Saint-Georges, Aurèle-Lemoine, Saint-Lazare, and Jours de Plaine. No closures have been announced for Sunday, December 21, 2025.
The following school divisions have cancelled classes entirely: Prairie Spirit, Garden Valley, Lord Selkirk, Lakeshore, Red River Valley, Rolling River, Sunrise, Seine River, Southwest Horizon, Interlake, Hanover, Borderland, Evergreen, Prairie Rose, Turtle Mountain, Brandon, and DSFM. Bus services have also been suspended in Seven Oaks, Faith Academy, Beautiful Plains, Brandon (outside city), École La Source, École Régionale Notre-Dame, École Gilbert-Rosset, and École Noël-Ritchot.
Three Starting Block Daycare Centres—Stonewall, Stonewall Children’s Centre, and Springfield Learning Centres in Anola—are also closed. Despite the disruptions, Manitoba 511 reports no road closures at this time.
The storm has led to significant school and daycare shutdowns, but travel routes remain open. Families should check for further updates as conditions develop. No additional closures are expected for the following day.
