Schönbrunn Palace Unveils 160-Year-Old Christmas Tree for 2022 Market
Schönbrunn Palace has unveiled its Christmas tree for this year's stock market, set to open on November 6. The tree, a stunning 160-year-old spruce from Salzburg's Pinzgau region, was carefully selected and transported by the Austrian Federal Forests (ÖBf).
The spruce, a beautiful specimen with dense branches, was harvested from the Taxenbach forestry district in the Raurisertal. It was then transported to Vienna on a low-loader truck and erected on Wednesday in the Ehrenhof courtyard in front of the palace. After the Advent season, the tree will be given to the animals at Schönbrunn Zoo as both a toy and a treat.
Georg Schöppl, spokesperson for the ÖBf board, sees the tree as a symbol of Austrian forestry and a harbinger of pre-Christmas cheer in the city.
