Schomacker Upgrades Yacht Insurance With Broader Coverage for 2025 Boating Season

Hamburg-based yacht insurer Schomacker has rolled out major upgrades to its skipper liability and trip cancellation policies for the new boating season. The changes bring wider protection for customers, with no rise in premiums for some key improvements.

The skipper liability insurance now covers more scenarios without extra cost. One new addition allows cancellations if a prosthetic or implant loosens or fails. Another key update removes the deductible for property damage claims, meaning customers face no out-of-pocket expenses for covered incidents. The insurer has also scrapped the deductible for charter-related damages that leave a boat unusable for the next renter.

Towing assistance has become more affordable too. The deductible for this service has dropped from €2,500 to €1,300, reducing costs for policyholders needing help on the water. For trip cancellation coverage, Schomacker has expanded the list of valid reasons. Pets, including dogs and horses, can now be included—but this comes at an extra charge of one percent of the insured loss amount. Customers also have the option to add a partner or another key person to the covered cancellation reasons. Since its launch in 2023, Schomacker's skipper liability policy has grown rapidly. It now outperforms many competitors, such as Pantaenius and Allianz, by offering lower premiums and broader protection. Only two other German providers, HanseYachts Versicherung and Yachtpool, match its coverage for damages that make a vehicle unusable—both of which entered the market in 2024.

The updates give boaters more flexibility and financial security this season. With no added premiums for some enhancements, Schomacker's policies now cover a wider range of risks. The changes also reflect the company's push to stay ahead of rivals in the yacht insurance market.
