Industrial production in the North remains lower until the end of September - Schleswig-Holstein’s industrial output plummets by nearly 6% in 2025
Industrial output in Schleswig-Holstein has dropped sharply in the first three quarters of 2025. Both domestic and foreign sales fell, with exports outside the eurozone hit hardest. The region’s overall industrial turnover declined by nearly six percent compared to the same period last year.
The decline was driven by steep losses in energy-heavy and chemical industries. Mineral oil processing, rubber, and plastics production all shrank significantly. At the same time, fewer large orders weighed on performance, particularly in sectors like shipbuilding, where revenue collapsed by 61.9 percent after an unusually strong 2024.
The figures highlight a challenging year for Schleswig-Holstein’s industrial sector. While some areas like pharmaceuticals and metal production expanded, broader declines in key industries and weaker export demand pushed overall turnover down. The region now faces the task of stabilising its manufacturing base amid ongoing economic pressures.
