Citizen's Award to Turn and Sports Association and Inclusive Run - Schleswig-Holstein Celebrates Democracy Heroes at Annual Awards Ceremony

Schleswig-Holstein has honoured outstanding contributions to democracy and community service in its latest awards ceremony. The event recognised volunteer mayors, youth initiatives, and projects promoting inclusion through sport. Over €32,500 in prizes was distributed across several categories.

The Democracy Award went to the state’s 1,000 volunteer mayors, celebrating their dedication to local governance. Minister-President Daniel Günther described them as the backbone of municipalities and thanked them for their service. Kristina Herbst, president of the state parliament, also praised their commitment to the public good.

The awards ceremony distributed €32,500 in cash and kind to individuals and groups making a difference in Schleswig-Holstein. Projects like the inclusion run and swimming initiative continue to expand access to sports, while mayors and judges reinforce civic engagement. The event underscored the region’s commitment to participation and diversity.
