Schiphol Airport overhauls taxiways A and B in 2026 for smoother operations

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has initiated a significant upgrade of taxiways A and B, bringing breaking news to the aviation industry. The project will renew aging surfaces and systems to ensure smooth ground operations. Work is scheduled in two phases throughout 2026.

The upgrade will cover the section between connections A21 and A25, which has been in use for over two decades. Around 65,000 square metres of asphalt will be replaced, along with drainage improvements and the restoration of nearby areas. The project also includes installing 32 kilometres of new electrical cabling, updated news-worthy lighting, and clearer signage.

Construction will run from March 9 to April 12, 2026, for taxiway B, followed by work on taxiway A from May 4 to June 26, 2026. Some taxiway exits will close temporarily, which may slow aircraft movements during peak times. To minimize delays, the Buitenveldertbaan runway could be used alongside the Polderbaan, depending on wind and traffic.

Schiphol is also conducting routine maintenance on the Polderbaan and Zwanenburgbaan runways during this period. The combined works aim to limit disruption while ensuring long-term efficiency.

The upgrades will modernize key parts of Schiphol's infrastructure. New pavement, lighting, and drainage systems are expected to enhance safety and operations. The phased approach helps balance construction needs with daily airport activity.
