Scheffler's bogey-free 67 revives his 2026 Players Championship bid

Scottie Scheffler delivered a strong third-round performance at the 2026 Players Championship, carding a bogey-free 67. His improved play off the tee helped him climb near the top 20, though he remains tied for 26th overall. The world number one reflected on his approach rather than fixating on results.

Scheffler began the tournament with rounds of 72 and 73, leaving him at 1 over par. His third round, however, saw a turnaround as he struck 11 of 14 fairways—far better than his earlier struggles. This accuracy led to sharper approach shots and five birdies, all from inside 20 feet.

Despite the progress, missed fairways on par-5 holes cost him scoring chances. He managed just one birdie across the four par 5s for the week, including a near-disaster on the 11th, where his second shot found the water. Even then, he scrambled to save par. After the round, Scheffler emphasised his focus on process over outcomes. He praised his attitude and commitment, noting that his mindset had remained steady throughout the tournament. His 67 moved him to 4 under for the event, though 26 players still sit ahead of him on the leaderboard.

Scheffler's bogey-free round marked his best performance of the week so far. With a total score of 3 under, he trails the leaders but has shown signs of improvement. His driving and short-game resilience will be key if he aims to rise further in the final round.
