In 2026, anime fans worldwide can look forward to the release of Sekiro: No Defeat, a highly anticipated adaptation of FromSoftware's critically acclaimed game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. This exciting new anime will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll, with the exception of Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus.

The production of Sekiro: No Defeat is a collaborative effort between Kadokawa, Qzil.la, and ARCH. The series will be a fully hand-drawn 2D anime, with no AI techniques used in its creation or production. Kenichi Kutsuna, known for his key animation work on Naruto: Shippuden, Bleach, and Paranoia Agent, will direct the series, while Takuya Satou, noted for Fate/stay night, will write the screenplay. Takahiro Kishida, who worked on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, will be responsible for character design.

The anime adaptation will retain the visual beauty and richness of the original game, staying true to its themes of loyalty, blood, vengeance, and supernatural intrigue, set in a stylized reimagining of Sengoku-era Japan. The production team aims to channel the game’s precision and spirit into every frame, emphasizing artistic vision and passion for beauty.

Asa Suehira, chief content officer at Crunchyroll, praised the adaptation, stating that the qualities of precision and intensity from the game carry through beautifully in the anime. The total number of episodes has yet to be announced.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the game that inspired this anime, has sold over 10 million copies since its release in 2019. Hidetaka Miyazaki, known for his work on Dark Souls and Bloodborne, was the director of the game, which was revealed in December 2017 at the Game Awards and earned the Game of the Year honours.

In other exciting news, Crunchyroll is hosting a 24-hour Demon Slayer marathon online. The anime, also hosted by Crunchyroll, promises to offer a captivating viewing experience for anime enthusiasts everywhere.
