Schalke to Finalize Agreement with Coach Muslic Today

FC Schalke 04, a second-tier Bundesliga club, is reportedly set to announce Miron Muslic as their new head coach on Tuesday. The 42-year-old coach, who is joining Schalke from the relegated English Championship side Plymouth Argyle, is expected to sign a contract until 2027.

Muslic, a relatively unknown coach in Germany, made a significant impact in Belgium with Cercle Brugge. He led the team to a notable league finish and successfully qualified them for European competition.

Schalke has struggled in recent seasons. The Gelsenkirchen-based club started the previous campaign with Karel Geraerts, who was subsequently replaced by Kees van Wonderen. Despite the changes, Schalke failed to achieve the desired success. They were in the relegation battle until the end of the season and finished in 14th place under interim coach Jakob Fimpel.

Schalke has experienced a high turnover of trainers since finishing as runners-up in 2018. Since then, 12 different coaches have been at the helm, with three of them serving as interim coaches twice each. The last Schalke coach to work at the club for at least two years was Mirko Slomka.

Muslic's appointment has caused contention with Plymouth Argyle, who expressed disappointment over his talks with a "2. Bundesliga club." He had only been with the English side for four months after starting his task in January.

In Belgium, Muslic is celebrated for his achievements at Cercle Brugge. His successful tenure contributed to his recognition and opportunities in top European leagues. With Muslic at the helm, Schalke hopes to stabilize the club and ultimately return to the Bundesliga in the medium term.

Miron Muslic's successful tenure at Cercle Brugge, where he led the team to a notable league finish and qualified them for European competition, may bring a much-needed boost to FC Schalke 04, a second-tier Bundesliga club. Despite the club's struggle in recent seasons and a high turnover of trainers, Schalke hopes that Muslic, joining from the relegated English Championship side Plymouth Argyle, will help them eventually return to the Bundesliga in the medium term.
