Schalke secures a new primary sponsor.
Schalke 04, the royal blue giants of German football, have announced a significant change in their sponsorship line-up for the upcoming season. The Russian energy company Gazprom, previously the main sponsor, has withdrawn due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. However, the club has found a new main sponsor in MeinAuto.de, a Cologne-based company that allows customers to compare prices for new and used cars on its online portal.
Bernd Schröder, Chairman of FC Schalke 04, expressed his gratitude towards the new sponsor, stating, "We are fortunate to have partners like Polygonvatro and now MeinAuto.de, who are committed to supporting us in our journey."
MeinAuto.de's Managing Director, Marco Steinfatt, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "We want to support Schalke 04 in the long term and actively participate in actions around the club." The sponsorship deal, reported to be worth €2.1 million, is independent of the club's league status.
While Gazprom's departure posed a major financial challenge, Schalke 04 has managed to secure its finances by separating the matchday and training sponsors. HRS, a tourism company, will sponsor the training jerseys, with its logo visible only during the warm-up on matchdays. Polygonvatro, a company specialising in drying and sanitation technology, will remain a partner of Schalke 04 independent of the league.
Vivawest, a real estate company, had stepped in temporarily as the main sponsor but will not be the main sponsor in the first league. The extended contract with Polygonvatro does not include details about the sponsorship amounts.
MeinAuto.de aims to make its sponsorship tangible for Schalke fans. The new Schalke 04 jerseys, launching from 15 July, will feature the logo of the new main sponsor, MeinAuto.de, prominently on them. Marco Steinfatt stated, "We aim to include Schalke fans in our sponsorship and make it tangible."
Schalke 04 has been the first Bundesliga club to adopt this approach, separating the matchday and training sponsors. The club's Chairman, Bernd Schröder, stated, "We are fortunate to have partners like Polygonvatro and now MeinAuto.de, who are committed to supporting us in our journey."
