"Kicker": Schalke has successor for Ben Manga found - Schalke 04 names Maximilian Lüftl as new scouting and transfers chief for 2026
FC Schalke 04 has appointed Maximilian Lüftl as its new Head of Scouting and Transfers. The 32-year-old will officially take up the role on 1 January 2026, replacing Ben Manga, who departed the club three months ago. Lüftl currently works for Hannover 96, where his contract as chief scout runs until the end of this season.
Lüftl’s move marks a shift in Schalke’s recruitment structure. Unlike his predecessor, he will not carry a directorial title. Instead, his focus will remain on identifying talent and managing player transfers.
The Royal Blues have been without a dedicated scouting chief since Manga’s exit in early summer. Lüftl’s experience at Hannover 96, where he has overseen player recruitment since 2022, made him a strong candidate for the position. His contract with the Lower Saxony club ends in June 2025, allowing him to join Schalke at the start of next year.
Schalke’s new scouting head will begin work in January 2026. His arrival follows a period of restructuring within the club’s recruitment team. The role will centre on strengthening the squad through targeted signings and long-term player development.
