English Footballer Derry John Murkin Parts Ways with Schalke 04 for FC Utrecht Move

After two years at FC Schalke 04, Derry John Murkin has decided to bid farewell to the German club and join FC Utrecht in the Netherlands. The 25-year-old English left-back, whose contract with Schalke was set to expire in 2026, is reportedly set to cost FC Utrecht around €1.2 million, with the potential to reach €1.5 million depending on performance-based bonuses. No specific details about the transfer conditions have been disclosed by either club.

Schalke's sporting director, Youri Mulder, has commented that the financial aspects of the deal make sense considering Murkin's age, contract duration, and current market value. Murkin joined Schalke from FC Volendam in 2023 and played 54 second-tier games for the club, scoring one goal and delivering nine assists. Earlier this year, he had expressed his intention not to extend his contract with Schalke.

Murkin's transfer value was estimated around €2 million earlier, but the final deal has been negotiated below this figure. Murkin has agreed to a new contract with FC Utrecht until 2029.
