Goose prices in Saxony remain stable - Imported goods dominate - Saxony's Goose Season Begins with Stable Local Prices Despite Imports
The goose season in Saxony has begun, with local prices remaining stable despite increased imports. Lorenz Eskildsen, a prominent local producer, continues to sell fresh geese at 21.95 euros per kilogram, matching last year's gold price.
Eskildsen, who slaughters around 30,000 geese annually, sells his produce in his own farm shops and regional small businesses. His prices are in line with other German producers in the region, with fresh geese from local production costing around 20 euros per kilogram.
The second important sales period for producers like Eskildsen is Christmas. However, the increased demand hasn't affected prices significantly. The price for fresh geese from German production in Saxony remains steady at around 20 euros per kilogram.
In contrast, the price of imported geese has risen to between nine and eleven euros per kilogram this year. About 15 to 20 percent of the geese sold in Saxony come from Germany, with the rest imported from abroad. Despite the price increase, imported geese still make up a significant portion of the market.
The goose season in Saxony, which began on 1 November, sees stable prices from local producers like Lorenz Eskildsen. Despite increased imports and higher prices, German production remains competitive. With four out of seven poultry farms in Saxony engaged in goose breeding last year, the region continues to be a significant player in the goose market.
