6.7 Million Euros for Secure Water Supply in Saxony - Saxony secures €6.7M to fortify water supply against crises

Saxony has received €6.7 million in federal funding to strengthen its water supply over the next five years. The money will help protect residents, businesses and the environment by improving infrastructure and emergency preparedness. Officials stress the importance of reliable water access, especially during crises.

The Saxony State Directorate (LDS) is overseeing the project under the Water Security Act. A key focus has been repairing aging raw water extraction sites to prevent shortages. Emergency power systems have also been installed at critical facilities to keep water flowing during blackouts.

To handle sudden disruptions, the region has purchased water transport trailers. These can deliver supplies quickly if pipelines or treatment plants fail. LDS President Béla Bélafi highlighted that a stable water supply is essential for basic needs, particularly in disasters. The funding aims to secure both daily water access and long-term environmental protection. Measures include safeguarding waterways and ensuring sustainable extraction methods.

The €6.7 million investment will improve Saxony's ability to respond to water emergencies. Upgrades to infrastructure and emergency equipment are already underway. These steps are designed to maintain water security for households, businesses and ecosystems in the years ahead.
