New Subsidies: Share and Save on Solar Power - Saxony Launches €3.1M Fund for Shared Solar Projects in Transition Regions
Saxony's Energy Minister Dirk Panter (SPD) has introduced a financial support program for shared solar installations in regions experiencing structural change. The initiative aims to boost joint power production and usage, hastening the energy transition in areas like Bautzen, Görlitz, Northern Saxony, Leipzig, and Chemnitz.
The program, funded by the Just Transition Fund (JTF) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), has €3.1 million available. It targets new photovoltaic systems with a minimum capacity of 10 kilowatt-peak, installed in eligible regions. These systems must supply solar power to multiple parties within or connected to a single building, along with battery storage systems.
Businesses, municipalities, cooperatives, associations, and special-purpose associations can apply, but private individuals cannot. Grants typically cover up to 80% of investment costs, with a maximum of €200,000 per project. However, at least two local consumers must benefit from the electricity generated for a project to qualify for funding.
The initiative seeks to promote community solar systems, fostering local energy production and usage. It targets regions undergoing structural change, providing financial support to eligible applicants. With €3.1 million in funding, the program aims to accelerate the energy transition in affected areas.
