Icy Conditions and Snow in Saxony - Saxony faces icy chaos as snow and black ice grip the region

Saxony is bracing for a cold and hazardous start to the week. Snow and icy roads will create difficult conditions, particularly in eastern parts of the region. Drivers and pedestrians are being urged to take extra care as temperatures drop and black ice forms.

On Monday morning, eastern Saxony could see up to two centimetres of fresh snow. The melting snow is expected to refreeze overnight, leading to widespread black ice on roads. These icy patches will likely persist into Tuesday, increasing the risk of accidents.

Higher mountain areas will also experience light snow on Tuesday. The Fichtelberg summit may face gusty winds, adding to the challenging weather. Daytime temperatures will hover between 1°C and 4°C in most areas, but mountainous regions will stay colder, ranging from -3°C to 1°C.

The sky will remain mostly overcast throughout the day. By Tuesday evening, rain or sleet is forecast to move in, further complicating travel conditions. The combination of lingering ice and fresh precipitation will keep roads slippery overnight.

The cold snap and icy conditions are set to disrupt travel across Saxony for at least two days. Residents should prepare for hazardous driving and possible delays. Authorities may issue further warnings if the weather worsens.
