Right-wing extremist party BSW in Saxony appoints new state leadership - Saxony elects fresh state executive body in BSW vote
In a significant shift for the Alliance for Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) in Saxony, current party leader Sabine Zimmermann has announced that she will not be running for re-election at the upcoming state party conference on September 13, 2025. The conference, set to take place in Bautzen, will also see the election of a new state board for BSW Saxony.
Zimmermann, who has been the party leader in Saxony since her election, plans to focus on her role as the BSW faction leader in the state parliament after stepping down from the dual leadership. Her decision not to run again was a pre-planned move, and she confirmed the news in a recent statement.
The Chemnitz "Free Press" was the first to report this change, but no new publications about the leadership change have been released since. The exact details of the leadership transition are yet to be announced.
Rumours suggest that the current party vice-chairman, Ronny Kupke, is tipped to be Zimmermann's successor as the party leader of BSW Saxony.
BSW in Saxony is currently undergoing expansion, with the founding of district associations and the acceptance of new members. Approximately 1,000 applications for membership are pending and aim to be processed by the end of the year. The party currently has around 200 members in the state.
Jörg Scheibe, a co-chair of BSW Saxony, is also expected to play a crucial role in the leadership transition.
The state conference in Bautzen on September 13 will be a pivotal moment for BSW Saxony, marking a significant change in leadership for the party. It's important to note that the Alliance for Sahra Wagenknecht's state conference in Dresden is not mentioned in this context, suggesting that the focus remains on the Bautzen conference for the moment.
As the leadership transition unfolds, the future of BSW Saxony will be closely watched. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
