Left Party Focuses on Social Justice in Election Campaign - Saxony-Anhalt's Left Party gears up for election with bold social justice agenda

The Left Party in Saxony-Anhalt is preparing for the upcoming state election on 6 September. This weekend, members will finalise their candidate list as part of a campaign focused on social justice and direct voter engagement. The party aims to address growing concerns over economic pressures and the rise of far-right groups in the region.

In the 2021 election, the Left Party secured 11 percent of the vote in Saxony-Anhalt. Since then, political shifts have seen the AfD surge to 39 percent in recent polls, while the CDU has dropped to 26 percent. Despite these changes, the Left Party remains determined to defend welfare policies and challenge far-right influence.

The party's candidate list is expected to be led by parliamentary group leader Eva von Angern. Student activist Eric Stehr and former MDR broadcaster Antonia Kaloff will follow in second and third positions. Co-leader Hendrik Lange may take the fourth spot.

Campaigning efforts will take the party's message into clubs, market squares, and door-to-door discussions. Key promises include fighting for climate action, protecting local hospitals, and offering practical support like energy bill checks. The party is also pushing for a windfall tax, fuel price caps, and the return of the €9 monthly public transport ticket.

Voters in Saxony-Anhalt are facing rising heating costs, affordability struggles, and concerns over migration. The Left Party's platform seeks to address these issues while preventing potential government blockades by far-right majorities.

The Left Party's finalised list and campaign strategy will set the stage for September's election. Their focus on social justice, economic relief, and direct voter outreach comes as the region grapples with shifting political dynamics. The outcome will determine whether their policies gain stronger support in the face of far-right competition.
