SEK deployed 2025 to 100 missions - Saxony-Anhalt's Elite Police Unit Defuses 100 Extreme Threats in One Year

Saxony-Anhalt's police Special Deployment Commando (SEK) handled 100 high-risk operations last year. The unit responds to extreme threats, including hostage situations, armed confrontations, and violent domestic disputes. Their work often involves life-or-death scenarios where rapid intervention is critical.

In 2024, the SEK was called out 106 times by the state's police directorates. Of these, 46 cases required urgent emergency responses, while 69 involved direct action by the unit. The team faced 27 threat situations, 23 armed incidents, and five suicide attempts.

One operation saw officers disarm a man who had threatened his former partner and children with a hammer and a knife. Using a stun device, the SEK quickly overpowered him without further escalation. Such interventions highlight the unit's role in defusing volatile situations.

The SEK specialises in acute threats where standard policing would be insufficient. Their training prepares them for hostage rescues, kidnappings, and heavily armed confrontations. Despite their frequent deployments, no nationwide statistics for SEK operations in Germany were recorded in 2023.

The unit's 100 missions last year reflect the growing demand for specialised policing in Saxony-Anhalt. Their ability to neutralise armed individuals and resolve extreme threats remains a key part of regional law enforcement. Officials have not released comparable data for other German states.
