By the end of 2024, Saxony-Anhalt's Consumer Protection Agency received 16 applications for collective marijuana cultivation and distribution. This surge in interest follows the legalisation of private home cultivation and collective growing in non-commercial associations, which took effect on April 1, 2024.

The Cannabis Act, implemented in April 2024, has led to the opening of multiple cannabis social clubs in Saxony-Anhalt. Half of the 16 applications received by the end of 2024 were approved, indicating a significant interest in and acceptance of the new laws.

Despite the positive response, justice ministers from Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, and Thuringia have demanded revisions to the Cannabis Act. They cited implementation challenges and a lack of crime reduction as reasons for their request. A declaration from Saxony-Anhalt's justice ministers highlighted their experiences with the cannabis law, demonstrating their involvement in addressing these issues.
