No Fan Miles Planned for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Saxony-Anhalt - Saxony-Anhalt skips public World Cup 2026 fan zones despite tournament buzz
No major public viewing events or official fan zones will take place in Saxony-Anhalt for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The tournament, hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, runs from June 11 to July 19. Most cities in the region have yet to receive formal applications for large-scale screenings.
In the state's largest cities, including Magdeburg, Halle, and Lutherstadt Wittenberg, no official fan zones are planned. Bars, restaurants, and hotels may still show matches on outdoor terraces or in beer gardens. Magdeburg's venues are expected to broadcast games, but no large public gatherings have been organised.
Other municipalities such as Dessau-Roßlau, Weißenfels, Halberstadt, and Merseburg also have no scheduled public viewing events. Private organisers have shown interest, but no applications have been submitted. The lack of major screenings contrasts with past tournaments, where cities often set up communal viewing areas. Across Germany, only one confirmed public viewing—at Berlin's Weltwirtschaft am HKW—will take place for selected matches. Many games will air late in the evening or at night due to the time difference. The federal government is preparing a temporary noise protection ordinance to permit larger broadcasts during the tournament.
With no official fan zones approved, residents will rely on smaller venues for World Cup viewing. The absence of large-scale events reflects a shift from previous tournaments. Organisers and local authorities have not yet announced any changes to current plans.
