€92.7 million approved for research projects - Saxony-Anhalt lands €292M EU boost for green chemistry and AI innovation
Saxony-Anhalt has secured over €292 million in EU funding for innovation projects between 2021 and 2027. The investment targets 86 initiatives focused on digitalisation and sustainable solutions in the chemical sector. Science Minister Armin Willingmann called the funding a 'boost for the future and growth' in the region.
The funds will support research at universities and non-university institutions across Saxony-Anhalt. One key beneficiary is the Center for Dynamic Systems (CDS) at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Its project aims to transform the region's chemical industry through AI and advanced plastic waste recycling.
Last year alone, universities and research bodies in the state received around €92.7 million for similar initiatives. The current funding round extends this support, reinforcing efforts to modernise industrial processes and reduce environmental impact.
While broader EU data for 2023 remains limited, Saxony-Anhalt's allocation stands out. The 86 approved projects highlight the region's push for technological and ecological advancements in a traditionally industrial sector.
The €292 million injection will drive research into digital tools and green chemistry over the next four years. Institutions like Magdeburg's CDS will lead projects to make Saxony-Anhalt's chemical industry more competitive and sustainable. The funding reflects the EU's broader commitment to regional innovation and economic transition.
