Saxon Educators Stance on Wage Strikes

The Saxon Teachers' Association has voiced their support for wage strikes. Michael Jung, a member of the dbb Federal Collective Bargaining Commission and the state chairman of the Saxon Teachers' Association, expressed the need for teachers to receive a considerable wage increase, acknowledging their vital role in society. He stated, "Given the current crises and escalating challenges at schools, the employers' refusal to comply is not only inappropriate but disrespectful towards the employees."

The second round of public sector wage negotiations for Saxon state employees concluded without an agreement on Friday. In response, Verdi and the dbb civil servants' association announced nationwide warning strikes and protests.

The unions are seeking a 10.5% wage increase, minimum of 500 euros, and a 200 euro boost for junior staff. The agreement would span 12 months, with an additional 300 euro bonus for Berlin, Hamburg, and Bremen. These demands align with the wage agreement reached for the federal government and local authorities in April 20XX. The Tarifgemeinschaft deutscher Länder (TdL) expressed concern over these demands, classifying them as excessively high and financially unsustainable.

The TdL also highlighted potential implications of tariffs on certain imports, which could strain the budgets of public schools and universities, potentially affecting the provision of quality education and public service.
