Snow in the Sauerland isn't enough for skiing yet - Sauerland’s first snowfall arrives—but ski slopes remain closed for now
The Sauerland region has recorded its first snowfall of the season, but winter sports enthusiasts will have to wait a little longer. The current conditions are not yet suitable for skiing or snowboarding, according to local reports.
A spokesperson for Winter Sports Arena Sauerland confirmed that the snow is too wet and too sparse for slopes to open. While light snowfall is expected over the next few days, especially in higher areas, the weather remains too unpredictable for the season to begin.
Ski lift operations will not start this weekend, as the snow cover is still insufficient. Officials have stated that slopes can only be properly prepared when temperatures stay consistently below freezing. If conditions improve, snow production may begin as early as Friday.
Forecasters predict 5-15 cm of snow in higher elevations from Monday, though amounts will vary by location. Despite this, two lifts are tentatively scheduled to open on November 28, relying on large all-weather snow machines to create a suitable base.
Visitors to the Sauerland this weekend will likely enjoy winter scenery on walks rather than on the slopes. The full opening of ski facilities depends on further cold weather and successful snow production in the coming days.
