Saudi Arabia’s PlayMaker Studios launches with epic historical film in production
A major new film studio, PlayMaker Studios, has launched in Saudi Arabia as part of the country’s growing entertainment sector. Located in Qiddiya City, the studio is now operational with its first production already in preparation. The facility marks a significant expansion of the kingdom’s filmmaking infrastructure.
The studio’s first project will be Unbroken Sword, a historical action film directed by Alik Sakharov. Known for his work on Game of Thrones and House of Cards, Sakharov leads a crew of over 200 people already on site. Principal photography is set to begin in early 2026.
The launch of PlayMaker Studios signals Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become a key player in international film production. With Unbroken Sword as its first feature, the studio is set to expand further in the coming years. The government’s financial incentives and modern facilities aim to draw more high-profile projects to the region.
