Saudi Arabia set to join the 6th Asian Yogasana Championship happening in the United Arab Emirates
In the heart of the United Arab Emirates, Fujairah is set to host the 6th Asian Yogasana Championship from August 9 to 10. This prestigious event, organised by the Asian Yogasana Sports Federation (AYSF) and the UAE Sports for All Federation, is witnessing the participation of Saudi Arabia for the first time, marking a significant milestone in the development of competitive yoga in the kingdom.
Leading the Saudi team as coaches are Khaled Al-Zahrani and Renad Khaled. The team consists of six members, each eager to showcase their skills and contribute to the growth of yoga sports in the region.
Nouf Al-Marwaai, a Saudi national and a pioneer in promoting yoga in the country, is playing a pivotal role in this historic event. As the President of the AYSF, Al-Marwaai has been instrumental in promoting yoga sports across Asia. Her appointment was unanimous, recognising her as a leading figure in this field.
Al-Marwaai's contributions to yoga in Saudi Arabia are noteworthy. She is the first official yoga instructor from the kingdom and the first Arab recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award from India for her contributions to yoga. In her capacity with the AYSF, she also serves as the president of the Saudi Yoga Committee, further underscoring her central role in yoga development both nationally and regionally.
Lana Nazer, a resident of Saudi Arabia, has also been nominated for the Asian Outstanding Yoga Teacher Award. This recognition honours her efforts in promoting wellness in the Kingdom for 10 years.
Mashael Akram, another prominent figure from Saudi Arabia, will be on the officiating panel for the championship. Akram, who previously served as a judge for the 2023 Everest Yoga Championship, brings valuable experience to the table.
The 6th Asian Yogasana Championship is attracting participation from various nations, including Syria, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Iraq, Pakistan, Indonesia, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Iran, and the Philippines. However, it is not mentioned if any of these nations have specific team members or coaches participating in the championship.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Sharqi, the crown prince of Fujairah, is lending his patronage to the event, further emphasising its importance in the region. With the 6th Asian Yogasana Championship underway, the stage is set for a vibrant display of yoga sports, fostering unity and promoting wellness across Asia.
