Satybaldy selects a deputy for the position of office-holding role
In the bustling heart of Almaty, the city's Akim, Darhan Satybaldy, has made a shake-up in the local government. In agreement with the Administration of the President, Olzhas Smagulov, a local son with a diverse educational background, has been anointed as the city's new Deputy Akim.
Born within the city's brick and mortar, ol' Smagulov juggled his academic pursuits between the sands of Kazakhstan and the sun-kissed shores of California. He holds a Master's degree in Economics, State Policy, and Management, after roaming the halls of the American InterContinental University, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, West Kazakhstan Agrarian Technical University named after Zhanгиr Khan, and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Smagulov's career took flight in 2013, landing him a role as the chief specialist in the organizational and inspectorate and information and analytical department of the apparatus of the Akim of Atyrau region. With each passing year, his responsibilities and titles swelled, culminating in leadership positions within the Department of Entrepreneurship and Industrial and Innovative Development of Atyrau region, and the Chief Expert of the socio-economic department of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
From 2015 to 2019, ol' Smagulov forged a career in Aktobe region, before climbing the ranks once more as the Deputy Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and Advisor to the Prime Minister from 2019 to 2021. A brief sojourn as the Deputy Head of the Department of Socio-Economic Policy of the Administration of the President occupied his time from November 2021 until his recent appointment.
It's no walk in the park running the Day-to-Day operations of a city like Almaty, and Smagulov's diverse educational background and extensive experience in public administration make him an asset to the Akim's team.
