Saturday's Fifth Annual Celebration for the LGBTQ+ Community

Heading Out to Celebrate Queer Pride Dresden!

Get ready to cheer on queer liberation and join the fight against queerphobia this Saturday in Dresden! The fifth annual Queer Pride Dresden takes place, and it's a must-attend event to support and unify our community.

Where and when? The day kicks off at 2 PM on the Altmarkt, where the procession starts marching along the Terrassenufer, passing the Landgericht, and ends at the Alaunpark. Spanning approximately four kilometers and boasting a barrier-friendly route, the parade promises to bring together various voices and perspectives. If you need help finding your way, stick with the "Antifascista Dresden" group from 1 PM, who will welcome visitors at the main station and accompany them to the starting point with a feeder demo.

After the march, kick back at an after-party starting at 8 PM at the Club oka.

What to expect? This year's theme, "queer and antifascist - our bridges hold!", underscores the crucial connection between queer rights and antifascism. Besides promoting social visibility, the event addresses pressing political issues, including worrying increases in queerphobic attacks and right-wing tendencies in politics. Organizers have criticized the majorities of AfD and CDU in local councils and budget cuts to youth and democracy work by the CDU-SPD minority government in Saxony.

Hearing from a variety of voices, several speeches in German, English, and German Sign Language will be held during the event. Another crucial goal is to foster queer networks, with the initiative "We are the colorful hinterland" encompassing several Eastern German CSDs to boost visibility and solidarity in rural and urban Eastern Germany.

Entering its twentieth year, Queer Pride Dresden is rich in history and significance as a voice for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans* communities in Dresden and Saxony. Originating from the broader European and global Pride movement, this event has stood as a powerful affirmation of queer existence in a city where queerphobia persists. In essence, it has functioned as a space of resistance and community solidarity against ongoing social and political challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community in the region.
