Sardaar 2Box Office Income Day 2: Ajay Devgn's film remains close to the 10 crore rupee milestone

In the world of Bollywood, the much-anticipated release of Ajay Devgn's "Son of Sardaar 2" has fallen short of expectations, earning just Rs 9.75 crore in its first two days.

The film, which hit theatres on Friday, saw an opening day collection of Rs 7.25 crore, a figure that is lower than Ajay Devgn's horror release 'Shaitaan' which opened with Rs 14.75 crore. The film's performance continued to be lacklustre on day two, with a total earnings of around Rs 2.5 crore by 4 PM on Saturday.

The slower start was marked by low morning occupancy (around 10%) that only improved during the day but failed to reach strong levels in big cities. For example, Mumbai saw only about 20% occupancy and Delhi-NCR about 30.5% on day 1. While Tier-2 cities had relatively better turnout (like Lucknow 39%, Jaipur 37%), the lackluster attendance in big markets affected overall collections.

The film's underperformance can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, comparatively poor initial buzz and audience engagement reflected in low occupancy percentages in key metro areas. Secondly, stiff competition at the box office, with multiple big films competing on the day of release, possibly diluting viewership. Lastly, mixed or poor reviews and word of mouth implied by a slow increase in footfalls over time, limiting sustained growth.

Meanwhile, "Dhadak 2", a Dharma film starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri, experienced a sharp decline in audience interest as the day progressed on Saturday. The film registered an overall Hindi occupancy of 15.51% on Saturday, as per Sacnilk. The evening and night shows of "Dhadak 2" showed zero percent occupancy on Saturday.

"Son of Sardaar 2" is currently competing with Mohit Suri's romantic drama "Saiyaara" which has crossed Rs 285.75 crore in its second week. Despite being delayed by a week to avoid clashing with "Saiyaara", it appears to have had limited impact on its overall performance.

In the race for box office supremacy, "Son of Sardaar 2" is underperforming compared to Ajay Devgn's recent hits largely due to a weaker opening and lower audience occupancy, especially in major urban centers. The film features Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan and Deepak Dobriyal, among others.

The first weekend is expected to total around Rs 23-25 crore, which is modest for an Ajay Devgn production. The film will rely heavily on positive word-of-mouth and a strong Sunday performance to recover some ground.

In the realm of finance, the poor box office performance of "Son of Sardaar 2" might impact the film's Defi (distribution and exhibition) returns, considering its lower-than-expected earnings and weak audience turnout, especially in major urban centers. Meanwhile, the lack of audience interest in "Dhadak 2" on Saturday night suggests a potential decline in revenue for the movie in the entertainment industry, including movies-and-tv streaming platforms that purchase rights for such films.
