Sarasota rebuilds eroded shorelines after devastating hurricanes

Over a year after Hurricanes Helene and Milton struck, crews are currently addressing severe shoreline erosion and crumbling pathways. The city plans to install 500-600 feet of new sidewalks, 1,000 feet of reinforced embankment and 600 feet of rubble rip rap to protect the coastline from future storms. The combined funding from county and federal sources will help cover most of the restoration costs. Once complete, the repairs will strengthen shorelines and improve access across Sarasota’s parks. The city aims to finish the work as quickly as possible to fully restore these public spaces.
