Sarah Engels sings for Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest - Sarah Engels to ignite Eurovision stage with Fire for Germany

Sarah Engels will represent Germany at this year's Eurovision Song Contest. The 33-year-old singer won the national final on Saturday evening with her song Fire. Her victory secures her a place in the grand final on May 16 in Vienna.

Nine acts competed in Germany's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. An international jury from 20 countries first narrowed the field to the top three performers. The final decision then rested with the public, who voted Engels as the winner.

The contest itself will take place in Vienna after Austrian singer JJ claimed victory in last year's competition. This year's event will feature 35 participating countries—fewer than usual due to several nations withdrawing in protest over Israel's inclusion.

Engels first rose to prominence through the casting show Germany's Next Top Star, where she performed under her maiden name, Sarah Lombardi. Now, she prepares to bring Fire to the Eurovision stage next month.

Engels will perform in the grand final on May 16. The event in Vienna will showcase 35 countries, though the number has dropped following boycotts. Her win marks Germany's official entry for this year's competition.
