Sarah Engels, known from Germany's Got Talent, is set to make her musical theatre debut as the lead in the upcoming production of 'Moulin Rouge!' in Cologne. The creative team behind this Broadway-based musical is based in New York.

The musical is an adaptation of the 2001 film of the same name, starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. Engels will be portraying the character Satine, a woman who loves the stage but also struggles with the dark side of show business.

Engels, who has 1.8 million followers on Instagram, has no prior experience in musicals or school theatre. However, she has proven her versatility through her own music releases and numerous TV appearances.

Preparing for the opulent costumes of the musical, including wearing a corset early on, and learning a significant amount of information about the musical, including text, music, dance, and choreography, has been a challenging yet exciting process for Engels. She compares it to filling 1,000 new drawers with information.

Auditioning for the creative team was a crucial step in securing the role. Engels values her time with her child and doesn't want to be away every evening for performances. Therefore, the musical will have 15 performances planned for Engels to play Satine.

Singing in the corset presents a challenge for Engels, as it constricts her and reduces her air intake. Despite this, she is determined to bring her best performance to the stage.

The directing team for the 'Moulin Rouge!' musical in Cologne, in which Sarah Engels takes the lead role, is led by Tom Gerber. The musical will run from November 13.

Engels met her ex-husband, singer Pietro Lombardi, at Germany's Got Talent. They were married from 2013 to 2019 and have one son together. Engels remains focused on her career and family commitments, unsure if she could perform in musicals permanently.

Despite the mental demands of the musical job being more challenging than the physical demands, Engels is excited for the opportunity to bring the iconic story to life on stage.
