Sarah Engels achieves stardom in the musical world
Sarah Engels, a renowned singer who gained fame through the RTL casting show "Deutschland sucht den Superstar" (DSDS), is set to take on the lead role of Satine in the musical "Moulin Rouge!" starting from November 13 in Cologne. With 1.8 million followers on Instagram, Engels has made a significant impact in the entertainment industry. Her journey began with "DSDS", but she has since ventured into various TV formats and published her own music on platforms like Apple Music and YouTube. Engels' career in musical theater, however, has been a subject of doubt due to her family commitments and the demanding nature of the job. She has a son from her marriage to singer Pietro Lombardi, which ended in 2019, and a daughter born in 2021 with her new husband Julian. Despite the challenges, Engels finds the mental strain of learning the script, music, dance, and choreography for "Moulin Rouge!" to be a unique and rewarding experience. The role requires her to wear opulent costumes, including a corset, which affects her singing due to reduced air intake. But Engels has been rehearsing diligently, practicing moving in the costumes, including wearing the corset early on. The musical "Moulin Rouge!" is based on the 2001 film of the same name, starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. The story is set in the legendary Parisian nightclub Moulin Rouge, where Engels will portray the star character, Satine. Engels had to audition for the creative team of "Moulin Rouge!" in New York, presenting her singing and acting skills. She will be performing in 15 shows of the musical. Engels is a family-oriented individual, prioritizing time with her children over a potential career in musical theater. Despite this, she has taken on the lead role in "Moulin Rouge!", demonstrating her commitment to her passion for music and the stage.
