Sanchez's participation in the Air Europa rescue was not deemed necessary by the Office of Conflict of Interest, who have confirmed he had no obligation to recuse himself.
In a recent development, the Office of Conflicts of Interest (OCI) has rejected the People's Party's (PP) complaint regarding the participation of the President of the Government in the Council of Ministers that approved the bailout for the airline Air Europa.
The decision by the OCI, which is under the Ministry of Digital Transformation, was confirmed by the Superior Court of Madrid (TSJM) in June 2024, making it legally binding. The OCI concluded that the President was not obligated to abstain from the decision-making process, as his wife did not have nor does she have a labor or professional relationship with Air Europa or Globalia that implies the exercise of functions of direction, advice, or administration.
The PP, however, has expressed surprise at the speed of the OCI in dismissing their complaint and has stated that they want to read the grounds on which the dismissal decision is based before announcing their next steps. One of these possible steps could be going to court.
The PP's complaint was initiated due to the President's wife's "personal relationship" with the airline, as argued by the PP. This complaint comes days after the TSJM ordered the OCI to admit a complaint filed by the PP in March 2024.
Meanwhile, the industrial link with Israel is considered "supervised". The Government, in a separate matter, has guaranteed that it will approve the decree for the embargo of weapons to Israel on the next Tuesday.
In another development, the PP is beginning to process a law in the Senate to politically disqualify those who glorify terrorism. Robles, on a different note, has denied having put "objections" to the embargo of weapons.
The Government sees the criticism from Podemos as unfair and has asked them to lend a hand in the face of their "strange" drift to the left. This fact, however, is not directly related to the OCI's decision but is mentioned in the same paragraph.
In a related matter, the PP has also confirmed that they do not yet have knowledge of the notification of the dismissal as of 18:30. According to advance information from 'Cadena Ser' and confirmed by sources knowledgeable to Europa Press, the OCI has already responded to the tribunal's request, reiterating that the President did not have to abstain from the granting of public aid to Air Europa because his wife did not maintain "any personal or professional relationship with the company" at the time of the grant, in the year 2020.
