Salazar himself asked for these claims to be investigated, and the party announced it would launch an immediate inquiry, emphasizing that no formal complaint had been made through usual channels before.
In addition to the sexual harassment scandal, the PSOE is also grappling with high-profile corruption allegations against former official Santos Cerdan, who was ordered held in custody by a Supreme Court judge for allegedly organizing bribes in exchange for public contracts. Cerdan denies these charges, but the corruption investigation poses a serious threat to Sánchez's government stability.
Despite the mounting pressure, Sánchez has shown no signs of stepping down. In a recent statement, he said, "Captains do not abandon the ship in a storm." He also stated that the shadow of his mistake should not make the party resign, and that he does not believe that the mistake he made should lead to his resignation.
