San Fermín Ranching in 2025: José Escolar's Stunning Red-Feathers Showcase
Pamplona, Spain, is gearing up for the annual San Fermin festival, with the first encierro of the year set to feature Fuente Ymbro bulls. This traditional spectacle, celebrated since the 16th century, will see the famous bull run take place on the streets of the city.
In a bid to ensure the safety of participants and spectators, the city authorities will apply 1,500 liters of anti-slip solution to the route of the run. The route's length and the time it takes to complete the run have not been specified yet.
For the afternoon's bullfight, three matadors - Rafaelillo, Fernando Robleno, and Juan de Castilla - will perform. Interestingly, this will mark the second consecutive year that these matadors will be working together in Pamplona.
The bulls that will be featured in the bullfight are mainly of the cardenño coat, with black entrepelados, and some blacks. The specific breed of these bulls is the Albaserrada, which is one of two pure Spanish breeds of Victorino Martín Andreés.
The Albaserrada bull is known for its muscular build, great trapiño, and little weight. These bulls are raised primarily for bullfighting, a traditional spectacle in Spain. They are bred for their strength, endurance, and fierce nature, which allows them to withstand the physical demands of the arena.
Jose Escolar Gil, a renowned rancher, owns and breeds these bulls for various purposes, including bullfighting and agricultural display. His current Ganaderia is Marqués de Albaserrada. In 2024, Jose Escolar's bulls made a successful appearance in Pamplona, with the encierro lasting 2 minutes and 17 seconds and remaining injury-free, barring two reported traumas.
San Fermin 2025 will also feature the fifth encierro of Jandilla bulls. Jandilla, the winner of San Isidro, is another famous bull breed known for its black legend. The exact details about the second encierro of San Fermin 2025 are yet to be announced.
As the countdown to San Fermin 2025 begins, the city of Pamplona is buzzing with excitement, ready to welcome back the traditional bull run and the thrilling afternoon bullfights.
Despite the excitement for the San Fermin festival, authorities are focusing on safety measures, applying 1,500 liters of anti-slip solution to the run route. Amidst the traditional spectacle of the bull run and bullfights, the sports of football will continue to captivate Pamplona's residents and tourists alike.
