Salzburg enjoys good fortune, as celebrated opera singer Cecilia Bartoli acknowledges
The Salzburg Festival has welcomed the reopening of the opera "Hotel Metamorphosis" with a star-studded celebration. The event, held at the festival, saw the presence of acclaimed soprano Cecilia Bartoli, who is featuring in the reopened opera.
Bartoli, an acclaimed Italian mezzo-soprano, has been a significant figure in the Salzburg Festival. She has been serving as the Artistic Director of the Whitsun Festival, a crucial part of the Salzburg Festival organisation, and will continue to shape its artistic vision and programming for the coming years.
The extension of her contract until 2031 indicates that Bartoli's collaboration with the Salzburg Festival will last at least through that year. This news comes as a testament to her dedication and impact on the festival.
During the 2025 Salzburg Festival season, Bartoli's active involvement was documented in performances and rehearsals, which were showcased on her and the festival’s social media.
Intendant Markus Hinterhäuser praised Bartoli, stating, "Cecilia Bartoli is a stroke of luck for Salzburg. We’re delighted to have her by our side."
The celebration following the four-hour performance of "Hotel Metamorphosis" took place at the Hotel Sacher, with a large Sachertorte specially brought in from Vienna for the occasion. Despite being unable to attend due to illness, Georg Gurtler expressed his excitement for the event, mentioning that 50 pieces could be cut from the Sachertorte.
Among the festival guests were fashion designer Carolin Sinemus, Eva Maria Baronin von Schilgen, Corinne Flick, and industrialist Hans Peter Wild, who serves as the festival's patron. The reception for the reopening of "Hotel Metamorphosis" took place in the Salzburg stage set.
Cecilia Bartoli made a statement about the Salzburg Festival, saying, "Our festival family inspires, challenges, and sometimes even exasperates each other. But we’re all fully committed to our art."
