Salman Khan's Maatrubhumi wraps reshoots after Galwan Valley epic
Salman Khan's upcoming film, Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, has wrapped its final reshoots after months of production. The movie, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, centres on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese forces. Filming began in Ladakh in September 2025, with additional scenes shot in Mumbai earlier this year.
The project was initially titled Battle of Galwan but underwent a name change to Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace. The decision came after careful thought, aiming to reflect the film's deeper themes of sacrifice and humanity. The new title, announced on 16 March 2026, was chosen to better capture the emotional weight of the story.
Salman Khan plays Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu, a key figure in the real-life conflict. The cast also includes Chitrangada Singh, Zeyn Shaw, Ankur Bhatia, and Vipin Bhardwaj. Production faced delays, requiring nearly 40 extra days of reshooting in Mumbai starting February 2026. The film will feature two notable songs: one in Hindi, *Maatrubhumi*, which has already earned praise from early listeners, and a Chinese track composed by Himesh Reshammiya. Khan is set to appear in the latter's music video, adding to the film's cross-cultural elements.
With reshoots now complete, Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace moves closer to its release. The film blends action with emotional storytelling, focusing on the Galwan Valley events. Its music, cast, and revised title all point to a production aiming for both scale and depth.
