From Classroom to YouTube Sensation: Sally's Journey
With a bachelor's degree in German, English, and Islamic Theology under her belt, Sally's initial dream was to teach. "I did it for the love of kids," she confesses. "As a teacher, I could make a difference." Ironically, her mentor at school, "Isolde," discouraged her from uploading her first video during her teaching internship. When the school management found out about her videos, they viewed it as a problem, according to Sally. But she found a way to juggle her teaching duties and YouTube career, channeling her efforts into her YouTube channel, "on the side" and "for maximum 30 minutes a week." Today, she runs a company with 140 employees.
"I'm a qualified teacher," Sally proudly proclaims. Building a solid foundation was important to her for a secure future. But then she unveils the tale of how her YouTube channel, "Sally's World," came to be. She had fallen in love with a school where she completed her internship and had a daughter. As teachers cannot choose their location or workplace, she planned to start work until her colleague went on maternity leave, thus keeping her ties with the school she loved.
Sally's Emotional Rollercoaster with her Dad
"My parents were frightened,” Sally admits. Her parents thought, "Great, she's giving up her secure teaching job to do YouTube videos or something?" That was especially true for her dad, who she says cried and begged her to continue teaching. "They came here and had to fight through life, they were always hardworking," she explains. "That's why they valued security." But Sally assures, "My dad has always supported my decisions. He knew I took responsibility." In time, Sally's dad embraced her new career, calling her a "teacher for the whole world."
