Salesians and Branson Perform Twice at California Live, Specifically in Section 7
Over the weekend of June 27-29, the Cali Live '25 NCAA Scholastic Live Period event showcased some of the best high school basketball talent in Southern California. With over 8,000 spectators and more than 250 college coaches in attendance, the event provided a valuable platform for scouting and evaluation.
In the Aussie Basketball Travelers bracket, St. John Bosco emerged victorious, defeating Crespi 45-42. Christian Collins led the team with a solid performance. Meanwhile, Salesian, a Northern California powerhouse, won the Kangaroo bracket, edging Notre Dame Sherman Oaks 64-62.
Harvard-Westlake secured the OCYSF bracket title by beating Inglewood 69-60, while JSerra claimed the Grip Spritz bracket championship with a 69-56 victory over Redondo Union.
Individual players also shone during the event. Damarian Landry of Oak Hills was recognized as a significant stock riser, while Jason Crowe Jr. was acknowledged as a top performer.
Luke Barnett, a 6-foot-3 2026 shooting guard from Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Cali.), scored an impressive 46 points in a game at Cali Live '25. Hunter Caplan of Crean Lutheran (Irvine, Calif.) and Maxwell Scott of Corona Del Mar (Newport Beach, Calif.) were among the best long-range shooters, while Jaden Bailes of JSerra led his team to the Grip Spritz Division title with a 33-point performance, including 6 3-pointers.
Jahlil Lindsey, a forward from Salesian, showed D1 level potential as a downhill driver and defender, hoping to see his recruitment pick up in hoops. Jo Jo Johnson of Mayfair (Lakewood, Calif.), Kaiden Bailey of Santa Margarita (Ranch S.M., Calif.), and Joe Sterling of Harvard-Westlake (North Hollywood, Calif.) also showcased their skills at the event.
Ezekiel Walker of Francis Parker (San Diego, Calif.) had a solid performance at Cali Live '25, attracting interest from college coaches, including San Jose St. and Stanford. Notre Dame's Zach White, a 6-foot-6 2026 forward, scored the first basket in the overtime of the Notre Dame-Salesian game at Cali Live '25.
The event concluded with 10 championship games on Sunday, with Salesian (Richmond, Calif.) winning the Kangaroo Division title. The OGP Ladera Sports Center was the hub of the action-packed weekend.
