Renowned Filmmaker David Lynch's Personal Items Up for Auction
Starting June 18, fans can bid on over 450 items from the collection of the late American cult filmmaker, David Lynch (1946-2025), through an auction by Julien's Auctions. The event will take place both in-person at the auction house in Gardena and online.
The star item of the auction is Lynch's personal director's chair, adorned with gold embroidery of his name. Estimated to sell between $5,000 and $7,000, this piece offers a chance to own a slice of film history. Furthermore, Lynch's La Marzocco GS/3 espresso machine from home could be up for grabs for coffee enthusiasts, with an estimated selling price of $2,000 to $3,000, a nod to the iconic dialogue from "Twin Peaks" (1990-1991, 2017).
For "Twin Peaks" aficionados, the auction holds true treasures. A red curtain and a black-and-white zigzag carpet reminiscent of the infamous Black Lodge can be yours for $1,000 to $2,000. The surreal atmosphere is completed by a large, framed photograph of an atomic bomb explosion from Gordon Cole's office, seen in the seventh episode of "Twin Peaks: The Return".
The most valuable single item is a hand-drawn, signed concept map of the fictional town of Twin Peaks, set to be offered at the "Hollywood Legends" auction on June 19 and 20, with an estimated selling price of $40,000 to $60,000.
The auction spans Lynch's entire career, featuring items from "Mulholland Drive", "Eraserhead", "The Elephant Man", and "Blue Velvet". Fans can even purchase Lynch's personal 35mm copy of his debut film "Eraserhead", though a projector is not included.
Other objects include musical instruments from Lynch's home studio, furniture, artwork, tools from his woodshop, and painting supplies from his studio. A vintage chenille couch similar to one from "Lost Highway" and four prop menus from Winkie's Sunset Blvd. in "Mulholland Drive" await new owners.
Catherine Williamson, CEO of Julien's Auctions, explains, "[The auction] offers an unprecedented opportunity to own items from David Lynch’s personal and creative universe, reflecting his multifaceted legacy in film, music, and visual art."
This auction provides a unique chance to acquire pieces that showcase Lynch's unique artistic vision and passions, drawing from his influential career in film, music, and visual art.
I'm not going to be able to make it to the auction of David Lynch's personal items, but I would have loved to bid on the various pieces showcasing his unique artistic vision in movies-and-tv, entertainment, celebrities, and pop-culture. For instance, the hand-drawn, signed concept map of Twin Peaks or the infamous Black Lodge set items from the show.
