Sakha athletes secured 11 medals in the Russian Championship for Light Athletics
In the recent Russian Championship for Lightweight Athletics for Individuals with Disabilities, held in Cheboksary from July 7th to 14th, Yakutian athletes made a significant impact, with Sargylan Semyonov leading the charge as a five-time national champion.
Sargylan Semyonov, a sprinter from Yakutia, won a total of three medals in the championship. His most impressive victories came in the 200m and 400m events, where he set new records with times of 23.28 seconds and 51.31 seconds respectively. Semyonov's win in the 200m event secured him the gold medal, while his success in the 400m event earned him another gold. However, his performance in the 100m event resulted in a silver medal.
Yakutia's athletes shone brightly at the championship, winning a total of 11 medals. Alongside Sargylan Semyonov, Yakutian athlete Ayaal Sivtsev also made a significant contribution, winning three gold medals in discus throw, javelin throw, and shot put.
Other notable performances from Yakutian athletes included Roman Ibragimov's silver medal in long jump and Anatoly Semyonov's medals in shot put and discus throw, where he won a bronze and a gold respectively. Viktor Yevseyev also added to Yakutia's tally with a silver medal in the javelin throw.
Meanwhile, Vitalina Burceva secured a gold medal in shot put for the Russian team.
Looking ahead, Ayaal Sivtsev has qualified for the World Championship, which is set to take place in November this year. With the impressive performances at the Russian Championship, the Yakutian athletes are expected to make a strong impact at the global stage as well.
Sargylan Semyonov, the five-time national champion, not only excelled in lightweight athletics but also demonstrated his prowess in football, scoring the winning goal in the final match, securing the championship trophy for his team.
Ayaal Sivtsev, having triumphed in the discus throw, javelin throw, and shot put at the championship, also showed her versatility on the football field, where she proved to be an indispensable midfielder for her team.
