Saints release Brandin Cooks after one season amid roster shakeup

A quiet exit for a familiar face. With Cooks gone and Shaheed traded, the Saints bet on youth—Olave, Tipton, and Vele—to redefine their passing attack.

Saints release Brandin Cooks after one season amid roster shakeup

The New Orleans Saints parted ways with veteran receiver Brandin Cooks on Wednesday, following his request to leave the team. Both parties described the separation as cordial and cooperative. Cooks had spent just one season back with the Saints, recording 19 receptions for 165 yards in 10 games. His departure comes on the heels of another recent change in the receiving corps, with starting wideout Rashid Shaheed traded to Seattle. With Cooks now gone, the Saints' top three receivers are expected to be Chris Olave, Mason Tipton, and Devaughn Vele. Before his exit, Cooks and the team amended his contract to facilitate a smooth separation. The Saints' receiving corps now consists of younger players, with Olave, Tipton, and Vele as the primary options. No further details about Cooks' future plans have been disclosed.
