On a warm Wednesday, water emergencies escalated on Lake Constance due to a combination of hot summer conditions and persistent low water levels from drought. The increased presence of swimmers during the peak season and the complex hydrological influences heightened the risks of fatal incidents.

In response to these emergencies, the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) and the Water Police swiftly mobilised rescue operations. The DLRG, the world's largest voluntary water rescue organisation, and the Water Police cooperated closely to provide immediate assistance to those in distress.

The day saw eleven calls to the Water Police, with situations ranging from a kite surfer being driven to shore after his line broke, to two boats being towed due to strong winds. Remarkably, a capsized catamaran and a capsized sailboat were righted, and another boat with engine trouble managed to repair itself without external assistance.

One particularly noteworthy incident involved a woman seeking safety on a police boat due to trouble with her inflatable boat. The strong winds on the lake caused numerous dangerous situations, but no new emergency situations were reported beyond those already mentioned.

The DLRG's reports have highlighted a rising trend of drowning incidents in parts of Germany, including lake areas, exacerbated by climate change and hot weather that encourage more recreational water activities. The recent weekend was particularly deadly for swimmers, underscoring the heightened risk under these conditions.

The Water Police from Friedrichshafen, Überlingen, and Konstanz all played their part in the operations, working diligently to mitigate further casualties. Their efforts included swift rescue interventions, patrolling swimming areas for safety compliance, and raising awareness about the risks of swimming under current conditions.

Despite the challenges, the teams' coordinated efforts resulted in the successful rescue of a total of seven people, ensuring the safety of those enjoying the lake on that warm Wednesday. The DLRG and the Water Police continue to monitor the situation closely, ready to respond to any future emergencies that may arise.
