Sai Sudharsan halts in his tracks, faces Ben Duckett to offer a harsh rebuke, with Harry Brook urging him to depart.
The fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between England and India at The Oval witnessed an intense confrontation between Indian batter Sai Sudharsan and English batter Ben Duckett on Day 2.
Sudharsan, who had scored a maiden Test half-century in India's first innings, was dismissed leg-before-wicket (LBW) off Gus Atkinson's delivery. The batter initially walked back to the pavilion but stopped midway, turned back, and confronted Duckett following some sledging from the latter.
The dismissal came after Sudharsan reviewed the LBW decision, hoping for a reprieve, but the technology showed three reds for ball hitting middle and leg stump with a good-length delivery keeping low. The verbal spat occurred immediately after this moment, suggesting it was linked to Duckett’s provocative sledging post-dismissal.
The incident added to the on-field spice between the England and India players. Team members intervened to prevent escalation, and no further on-field altercations were reported.
Meanwhile, England won the toss and decided to bowl first, with Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna scalping four wickets each as India were bowled out for 224. Zak Crawley and Harry Brook scored half-centuries for England, who were then bowled out for 245, giving India a lead of 23 runs.
At stumps on Day 2, India's score reads 75/2 with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Akash Deep unbeaten on 51 and 4, respectively. The confrontation between the two teams promises to add further excitement to the closely fought series.
