In a sad turn of events, Dejan Milovanovic, a former Serbian international with 2 caps and a renowned midfielder, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 41. The Artois club, RC Lens, announced the heartbreaking news on their X account.

Milovanovic, who played for RC Lens in Ligue 1 from 2008 to 2010, collapsed minutes after scoring a goal in a veterans' match between Red Star and PKB Korporacija Belgrade. Despite the swift arrival of emergency services, they were unable to revive him. The cause of his death was a double heart attack.

Born in Serbia, Milovanovic was the cousin of defender Branislav Ivanovic. He started his professional career in his home country before moving to France. In 2006, he won the Serbian Championship, and the following year, he joined Sang et Or, initially in Ligue 2, where he won a championship title.

Milovanovic later reached the top tier of Ligue 1 with a respectable 11th place finish. He wore the RC Lens jersey 47 times during his tenure. After his time at RC Lens, he played for other clubs, but his most notable stint was with the Artois club.

The information about Milovanovic's death was reported by Sportklub, a leading Serbian football media outlet. However, the announcement did not provide any additional information about the circumstances surrounding his death or mention any funeral arrangements or memorial services.

The Artois club expressed deep emotion over Milovanovic's passing, honouring his memory and contributions to the game. Milovanovic, who was also a former Serbian international, will be remembered for his skills on the field and his impact on the sport.

Our thoughts are with Milovanovic's family, friends, and fans during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Dejan Milovanovic.
